1. Agricultural and Extension Field Officers

Reporting to: Agricultural and Extension Manager, Masasi Banana Marketing Association 
Location: Mtwara

JOB PURPOSE:
• To assist in the attainment of the Fund's cashewnut production growth strategy by effectively implementing, monitoring and evaluating the cashew planting projects.


PRIMARY TASKS:

• Liaising and working closely with District Subject Matter Specialists of Cashewnut.

• To assist clients in timely preparation of needed planting materials.
• To assist timely distribution of planting materials to nursery producers and farmers. Also to ensure that all distributed seeds and seedlings are planted and well-kept to growth.
• Training and capacity building to farmers and village/ward extension officers on good agricultural practices.
• Maintaining up to date directory of cashewnut farmers.
• To assist in ensuring that all contractual obligations are complied with, including contracts signing, timely supply, production, distribution, documentation and payment for all services related to the project.
• Performing projects monitoring and evaluation.
• Perform any other duties assigned by superiors.



QUALIFICATIONS:
• Good University degree in Agronomy, Agriculture (General), Agricultural Education & Extension or equivalent qualification from recognised institutions.
• At least two years of post-qualification experience in a similar or higher position with a reputable organisation.
• Proficiency with computer application packages like Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Access and Power Point is essential.
• Proven good track record of integrity, innovativeness, hardworking and self-confidence.
• Ability to work under minimum supervision.
• Ready to undertake field assignments.
• Knowledge or experience in projects management and logistics will be an added advantage.


TENURE

Successful candidates will work under a contract of one year, renewable upon satisfactory performance and project continuation.



REMUNERATION

Qualifications

-Good verbal communication skills; advanced level of PC skills; willingness to work in a variety of conditions (field, plant, warehouse - hot, cold, dust, etc.); ability to lift up to 15kg.

4. Project Officer, Masasi Banana Marketing Association

Description
Background
Masasi Banana Marketing Association is an umbrella organization of marketing groups engaged with banana ecological production and marketing. It was established in 2014 with the purpose of improving the households’ income through improved banana ecological production and marketing. The association has been formed by the banana farmers in 14 villages in Masasi district, Mtwara region.


MABAMA is currently in partnership with SWISSAID to implement the project “Improving Livelihood Initiatives of Smallholder Farmers through Improved banana production and marketing in Masasi district” in order to facilitate implementation of this project the association seeks to recruit the project officer as follows:


Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

1. Facilitate Implementation of Project on ‘Improving Livelihood Initiatives of Smallholder Farmers through Improved banana production and marketing’

2. Supervise and accompany animators on project implementation
3. Coordinate all FFS activities and reports
4. Manage project budget and resource allocation
5. Plan and schedule project timelines
6. Monitor and track project Deliverables using Appropriate Tools
7. Coordinate and Motivate Project Team Such as Animators and Executive Committee
8. Prepare reports defining project progress, challenges and recommendations
9. Provide direction and support to project team
10. Facilitate/supervise project evaluations and assessment of results
11. Make sure that audit is done and reported on time
12. Prepare Project proposal as required by donor
13. Constantly monitor and report on progress of the project to all stakeholders
14. Implement and manage project changes and interventions to achieve project outputs/outcome
15. Perform any other Duties as Directed by Superiors



Qualifications

1. Bachelor degree in Agriculture, Agronomy or other related qualifications with at least one year work experience in a related position

2. Diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy or other related qualifications with at least three years’ work experience in a related position
3. Computer literate
4. Be able to speak and write English and Swahili
